Virginia legislators sent Governor Ralph Northam a bill to allow those over 21 to smoke hemp flowers, although they admitted they didn't understand why anyone would want to do so. The proposal, promoted by Republican delegate Danny Marshall, passed both legislative chambers at the end of February and has now been approved, announced the NBC.

Danny Marshall, a Virginia congressman, said the bill is intended to make it very clear that it is legal to smoke hemp, which smells and smells similar to cannabis but contains only a small amount of THC, the psychoactive component. Growing hemp was already legal under federal law and farmers have adopted the new crop, and the number of hectares of hemp cultivated has been on the rise.

Marshall gave as an example the disagreements in law enforcement, who experience some difficulties in enforcing state law, while hemp flower is sold in specialty stores and gas stations. Hemp products are sought after for CBD, a phytocannabinoid with effects on relieving anxiety and other conditions without the psychotropic effects of THC.

“The proposal just adds to the law that hemp cigarettes are legal,” Marshall said, citing a discussion in which one candidate accused the other of failing to enforce state law because he allowed hemp flowers to remain on store shelves.

Hemp smoking products are increasingly popular, although some countries have tried to ban them. In Portugal, the number of stores that sell this type of products has been increasing and hemp flowers can be found on sale with messages such as “unfit for human consumption” on the labeling.
