Mediathons forced to pay 6 million damages to Clint Eastwood

The recent case of actor and director Clint Eastwood could serve as a warning to the cannabis and CBD industry, which, in some cases, resorts to every artifact to promote its benefits. The Lithuanian company Mediatonas UAB lost a lawsuit, brought by Eastwood and Garrapata, the company that owns the right to his image, and is now forced to pay more than 6 million dollars, for having used the actor's image to promote your CBD products without your permission.

The news was New York Times, and the suit was one of 20 filed last year by the actor and Garrapata. It is therefore not unique, as there are several companies that use Eastwood's image or likeness to promote their products or services without his knowledge or permission.

In the case of Mediatonas, false quotes were used and meta tags manipulated to make it appear that Eastwood was promoting the products, when in fact he was not. The Lithuanian company also published a fictitious article, which included an interview with Eastwood on the set of a famous television show, along with left-wing to buy your CBD products. Mediatonas initially failed to respond to a court subpoena in March, leading to a $6.1 million sentence for the unauthorized use of Eastwood's name and likeness, and about $95 in court costs. The judgment includes a permanent injunction that prohibits future use of his name and likeness.
