The controversy around hemp
It is recalled that industrial hemp has been involved in a large controversy in Portugal, with agricultores to be detainees from GNR and to complain about measures too restrictive the cultivation of a plant that, despite belonging to the species c, is not considered a narcotic under international law.
A European Comission also dedicates a industrial hemp-specific page and its important role for the sustainability of the planet, making it clear that hemp cultivation contributes to the European Ecological Pact. Also the European Union added CBD extracted from hemp to the list of ingredients that can be used in cosmetics, in addition to the fact that the European Court of Justice has already declared that Member States cannot ban the commercialization of CBD in the European space.
However, several countries are limiting the cultivation and trade of hemp flowers, which have considerable levels of CBD (cannabidiol), a non-psychotropic cannabinoid with known health and wellness benefits. Between the latest scientific discoveries, it is included a study in-vitro from Oregon State University which demonstrated that two acidic cannabinoids from industrial hemp (CBDA and CBGA, found in the raw plant) blocked the entry of the Coronavirus into human cells.
Many farmers have insurgent against restrictive policies for the cultivation of industrial hemp in Portugal, accusing the governments of not want to hear them e exclude small producers. They also alert to the interests of the pharmaceutical industry in controlling the CBD market.
