Miguel Castelo Branco presents psychedelics in mental illness tomorrow

Miguel Castelo Branco, physician and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, specializing in Neurosciences and Medical Engineering, will speak tomorrow about the mechanisms of action of psychedelics and their potential use in mental health disorders, at the Webinar Agorà, promoted by Piauhy Labs, in partnership with the University of Aveiro Incubator, Biocant de Cantanhede and Cannareporter as a Media Partner.

Registration for the event is free and access to the Zoom session must be done on this link. The Webinar starts at 09 am and has several other speakers, including the Brazilian neuroscientist Siddhartha Ribeiro.

Miguel Castelo Branco is vice-president of the Portuguese Association for Developmental Disorders and Autism of Coimbra and director of the Center for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT), having also carried out molecular imaging and psychopharmacology studies, including with psychedelics. 

"In recent years there has been a growing interest in the role of psychedelics and their potential role in neurotherapy. In fact, they can be classified as psychoplastogens, a class of compounds that promote neural plasticity”, says Miguel Castelo Branco, who in his presentation will discuss the mechanisms of action and potential use of psychedelics in neuro-psychiatric disorders to address behavioral changes maladaptive disorders that characterize these brain conditions.
