Breeder's Best launches library of patent-protected cannabis cultivars
A Breeder's Best launched a library of cannabis cultivars in the United States of America (USA), the first exclusive patent-pending offering from five Independent Cannabis Breeders (ICB's). The initial offering includes seven cultivars with unique and rare cannabinoid and terpene profiles. The five ICB's that made them available include a military veteran, a female breeder and a mother-child breeding team. Breeders Best's exclusive library is a dynamic offering that will be updated as new cultivars are selected from around the world.
The varieties in this first catalog were selected from hundreds of applicants and further submissions are now being considered to be added to the company's offering in the coming months.
According to Breeder's Best founder and CEO Dale Hunt, these are “cultivars specials” for the cannabis industry. “The chemical diversity observed in these plants creates opportunities for growers, formulators and processors to offer unique flowers and value-added products to the market, in addition to the cultivars common”. Breeder's Best is the first company to specialize in licensing patent-protected cannabis genetics and the only company to exclusively serve independent cannabis breeders.
Ethan Russo, Neurologist, Pharmacologist and one of the most recognized researchers of the cannabis plant worldwide, is the Medical Director of Breeders Best. Russo had already publicly thanked the “underground army” of artisan growers who, “over decades of prohibition, have developed hundreds of varieties illegally”, so that patients today can benefit from them.
Currently CEO of CreDO Science, Russo further noted in this regard that the therapeutic potential of cannabis can be greatly enhanced by recognizing the unique properties that each of its cannabinoid and terpenoid components offers. For the physician and researcher, the breeding is the only solution to a number of problems plaguing the cannabis industry, most notably the lack of diversity in chemovars of cannabis, which result in a material that lacks quality control and is far from being the most suitable for its purpose.
Dale Hunt further explained that Breeders Best was born “out of a desire to help independent cannabis breeders become and/or remain economically viable and not be left behind in this rapidly changing industry.” The company “exists to bridge the gap between independent cannabis breeders and the market using a licensing model proven in horticultural industries.”

In the inaugural library of Breeder's Best are the following cultivars exclusive, together with the respective certificate of analysis:
- Pink Boost Goddess – is an award-winning variety with the highest known percentage of THCV commercially available, with a unique combination of myrcene, ocymene and terpinolene.

- anomaly - is a CBG-rich seed variety that produces no detectable THC or CBD, and is rich in terpenes, including myrcene, pinene, and limonene. Clones are purchased from licensed nursery partners under a material transfer agreement that includes a royalties, shared by Breeders Best and the ICB.
How to apply for the registration of cultivars and patents
ICBs submit certificates of analysis and photos of their unique varieties through the ICB's website. Best Breeders. The cultivars selected are tested for one year under a provisional patent application. If the variety is successful during this period, the complete patent will be filed on behalf of the applicant and ownership of the patent remains exclusively with the ICB. Breeder's Best is the exclusive licensee and grants sub-licenses to qualified partners.
Dale Hunt said in a statement, “Our model has the potential to be a win-win for creators, market and consumers. This approach can create immense value at multiple points in the value chain, while providing market access for more diverse cannabis products, which we believe is good for everyone.”
Breeders Best closes its first catalog with a thank you and an alert to breeders around the world, inviting them to submit their cultivars. “Attention Breeders! Thank you for the special work you do. If you have new strains and would like Breeders Best to consider adding them to their library, please complete the Cultivar Submission Questionnaire on their website”.
