Akanda acquires production and marketing rights for the Cookies brand

The international platform Akanda Corp., which owns the Portuguese company Holigen (and in turn RPK Biopharma), announced in a press release that it has established a partnership for the production and marketing of Cookies branded products in Portugal.

The company, with operations in Portugal, today announced an exclusive partnership with the iconic international brand Cookies. The multi-year agreement allows Akanda to address current opportunities in Europe with one of the most talked about cannabis brands. Cookies is an American brand created by rapper and entrepreneur Berner (Gilbert Milam), who recently appeared on the cover of Forbes, and has more than 53 stores in five countries, including 12 US states. The company primarily sells clothing and lifestyle products, as well as recreational and medical cannabis products, as required by regulations.

Production in Portugal for the European market

Under the terms of the agreement between Cookies and Akanda, the latter gains the ability to grow, manufacture and distribute Cookies varieties, as well as the rights to market Cookies-branded products on Portuguese soil. With this partnership, Akanda intends to initially produce medicinal cannabis with a high THC content, with EU GMP certificate, at its facilities in Sintra, Portugal. If future legislation so permits, Akanda may still exclusively open and operate Cookies branded stores nationwide.

“Adding the iconic Cookies brand and its high-THC varieties to the Akanda platform is an important catalyst in our pursuit of leadership in this industry. We can't wait to introduce the brand to consumers in Portugal and patients across Europe,” commented Akanda CEO Tej Virk.

American rapper and CEO of Cookies does not spare Portugal the praise

“The fact that Portugal decriminalized drugs in the early 2000s and people in the US are still being arrested for cannabis offenses 20 years later shows the world, especially the US, that we can learn a lot from this vision of the future. The partners we have chosen in Portugal have one of the most advanced facilities I have ever seen and will produce some of the best cannabis plants in the world. It's partnerships like this that make me excited about Cookies' growth and expansion around the world," said Berner, co-founder and CEO of Cookies.
