Cannabis Playlist: #4 – Cypress Hill – “Hits From the Bong”

The sound of bubbling water sets the tone for the mellow-dia that lulls the lyrics, sung in that drawling way so recognizable from Cypress Hill. This song is about the ritual of smoking a nice bong with lyrics that gently repeat “hits from the bong…” and “can I get a hit?”.

The Californian band formed by the trio Lawrence Muggerud (DJ Muggs), Louis Freese (B-Real) and Senen Reyes (Sen Dog), marked the 90s with anthems like “Insane in the Brain” and odes to the plant like “I Wanna Get High”, in a style unprecedented to date that mixes rap and rock n' roll.

The Cypress Hill family have always openly declared their love for Mary Jane. We remember a well-known episode that took place in 1993: before performing on NBC's star show Saturday Night Live, several managers from the publishing company and the television network insisted to the band that they could not smoke marijuana during the show.
