Sri Lanka is creating laws for the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purposes, which will be submitted for approval by the Government in the coming days, according to statements by the minister of indigenous medicine, Sisira Jayakody, to journalists. The news was advanced by The statesman.

“Cannabis is under the Ayurvedic (Indigenous Medicine) Law,” Minister Jayakody told reporters. “It is a matter of the Ayurveda Department. We have to deal with it with discipline. We cannot allow it to be used for recreational purposes. But we can use cannabis and cannabis extracts for medicinal purposes. There is great demand for export, too,” he said.

“We are working out the legal provisions. In a few days, we will present them to the Cabinet”, concluded the Minister.
