The unexpected seems to have happened in Brazil. After an intense week of demands, social mobilization seems to have had an effect on the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine (CFM). According to the Mrs Teresa Nelma, CFM has just suspended the resolution 2324/2022 published last week, after allegedly having accomplished during today a plenary session,.

The Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) will have met to discuss the controversial Resolution 2324/22, published on 14 October. The session ended with the entity deciding to suspend the measure, which restricted the use of medical cannabis in Brazil. The Resolution was received by patients and NGOs with social mobilization and demands, and protest sessions took place in CFM delegations.

During today, Deputy Teresa Nelma published a video on her Instagram where she claims to have contacted a member of the CFM, who confirmed that the resolution had already been suspended. The deputy claims to have contacted the acting Vice-President of CFM, Dr. João Carlos, who confirmed the suspension of the measure. The deputy then clarified that the resolution that will remain in force will be the one previously published, congratulating the Brazilian people for their mobilization and struggle.

The prosecution had also announced the opening of an investigation. According to what was reported by CannaReporter, Anvisa did not revoke its regulation, leaving CFM isolated and weakened in the discussion. Several parliamentarians and deputies have also advanced with proposals to suspend the measure, which would be confirmed in the last few hours.
