Hemp
Hemp included in temporary support to the agricultural sector
Portuguese farmers can now apply for the new exceptional and temporary support from the European Agricultural and Rural Development Fund (EAFRD), and hemp is included in the supported crops. The Ministry of Agriculture announced the opening of the period for submitting applications for 12 December, which ends on 13 January.
Applications have opened for exceptional and temporary support aimed at supporting the agricultural sector, which will allow farmers in general, and in particular, hemp farmers, to be eligible for the payment of this aid. To this end, farmers must meet the requirements laid down in ordinance which regulates support.
The support comes after a specific measure for granting temporary support under the EAFRD, in response to the impact of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, through Regulation (EU) 2022/1033, of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 29 June of 2022. The support provided for in the long-awaited ordinance is applicable to the following agricultural sectors:
(a) beef cattle;
b) Sheep or goats;
c) Horticultural – market, supply adjustment;
d) Cereals – post-harvest processing, drying;
e) Arable and horticultural crops, orchards, vineyards and olive groves. (Including hemp)
The overall budget allocated to the planned support is 57,1 million euros, with the allocation being broken down as follows:
a) Beef cattle – €16,0 million;
b) Sheep or goats – €10,0 million;
c) Horticulture, market, supply adjustment – €4,0 million;
d) Cereals, post-harvest processing, drying – €1,0 million;
e) Arable and horticultural crops, orchards, vineyards and olive groves – €26,1 million.
The application period runs from December 12, 2022 to January 13, 2023.
Applications are submitted electronically using the appropriate form available on the iDigital platform, on the IFAP, IP portal, at www.ifap.pt.
