There are 34 companies that obtained, by the end of 2022, a license from Infarmed IP for cannabis-related activities in Portugal, 11 of which already have EU-GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certification. Some of these companies accumulate several types of license, for different areas of activity related to cannabis.

In total, Infarmed has granted, to date, 20 licenses for the cultivation of controlled substances (cannabis), 10 for the manufacture of preparations and substances based on the cannabis plant, 11 for wholesale trade, 25 for import and 26 for export. It should be noted that one of the companies lost or did not renew the Infarmed license, VF1883, which is no longer included in the Infarmed lists, reproduced below, in the same order as they appear on the website of the National Medicines Authority.*

For an easier understanding, Cannareporter updated the map of licensed cannabis companies in Portugal, with data made available by Infarmed until the end of 2022. The location of companies on the map corresponds to their tax headquarters and not necessarily to the place of cultivation or activity developed. The English version of the map is at the end of the article.

*The Cannareporter made a mistake. This article referred to the non-renewal or loss of the license by the company EXM Ceuticals, information that was not correct.
According to Paulo Martins, who sent the request for correction and clarification to Cannareporter by email, “the authorization granted to EXMceuticals Portugal, Lda to “for the supply of narcotic and psychotropic substances and their preparations for research purposes involving the cannabis plant and its derivatives, was granted to the entity EXMCEUTICALS Portugal, Lda, at its facilities located in Tech. Labs — Innovation Center — Campus of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon” was published in DR. 2nd series part C on May 11, 2020, and, since that date, it remains valid, always fulfilling all the legal requirements in force for the exercise of its research activity.” Cannareporter apologizes to those concerned for the lapse.

With a professional background in CAD technical drawing (2D and 3D), João Xabregas is an activist and advocate for all uses and applications of cannabis. He discovered and entered the world of cannabis during his youth, where he developed a special interest in the cultivation of the plant, which led him on a journey of self-learning through the world of cannabis that continues to this day. His adventures linked to cannabis cultivation began with the same goal as many others: to be able to guarantee the quality and eliminate any possible risks to his health of what he consumed, as well as to avoid any type of dependence on the illicit market. However, he quickly began to view the world of cannabis and everything related to it with a very different perspective. He admits the enormous passion he has for the most persecuted plant in the world and about which he is always willing to write and have a good conversation.
