As the cannabis industry gains exponential global momentum, Europe's premier cannabis policy conference returns to London as adult-use cannabis markets accelerate towards legalisation. It is in this scenario that Cannabis Europa will take place, on the XNUMXnd and XNUMXrd of May, at the Barbican Centre, in London, organized by Prohibition Partners. The annual event will bring together more than XNUMX professionals, from politicians and industry operators to investors, patients and cannabis advocates from over XNUMX countries. The aim is to discuss the state of the industry and emerging global opportunities in the region.
Changing attitudes towards cannabis, economic forces and the heightened sensitivity of social justice issues are just some of the factors turning the tide of legalization of adult use in Europe. According to a press release from Prohibition Partners, organizer of the event, “sales of legal cannabis for adult use in Europe are expected to reach €1,6 billion by 2027, as European markets for adult use adults in Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the Netherlands develop. Over the same period of time, there will be exponential growth in the patient population in countries such as France, the UK and Poland, bringing the total number of medical cannabis patients in Europe to around 1,43 million – a 234% increase on compared to the forecast period (2023-2027).
Dorien Rookmaker, MEP from the Netherlands, who will speak on the “EU Better Believe It” panel, noted that there are big questions ahead for this sector. “The expansion of legalization of medical and recreational cannabis use has created enormous opportunities around the world. International standards and improved legislation are of great importance. What are the next steps?” asks the representative of the European Parliament, who will speak at the event.

Cannabis Europa will analyze the key drivers of market growth, as well as future opportunities and challenges. Chief among them is the timing of legalization across Europe and how regulations will affect the speed and growth of the market.
“Even if it seems slow, Europe is on the way to creating a new way of dealing with cannabis – fair, affordable, but still highly regulated,” said Dirk Heitepriem, vice president of the German Cannabis Industry Association, who will speak at the session “State of the art: Germany.”
The European cannabis market has historically been stricter than the US in terms of diversity and access to products, even for medical use, and this is unlikely to change even as laws around the substance evolve for safety reasons. Still, combined sales of CBD, medical and adult-use cannabis will reach nearly €6,5 billion by 2027, according to a report by Prohibition Partners, the group that organizes Cannabis Europe.
“Prohibition appears to be completely failing the cannabis sector and the market has not only established itself, but is also growing. Therefore, we need to find better control instruments. A strictly regulated market can regulate what is produced, where, by whom and how it is sold. A total ban cannot do that,” explains Czech National Drug Coordinator Jindrich Voboril. “A regulated market has greater potential for preventing harm.”
The two-day agenda will feature a prestigious group of advocates, innovators, policymakers and investors engaged in meaningful conversations about how to drive this market forward. The conference registration fee starts at £420 for the 2-day general conference and exhibition ticket.
