GreenBe Pharma, a pharmaceutical specialist in cultivation, obtained GACP authorization, granted by the National Authority for Medicines and Health Products IP – INFARMED, of Portugal. GreenBE Pharma is a Portuguese company dedicated to the manufacture and global marketing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients derived from the cultivation, processing and industrialization of the Cannabis plant. This authorization will allow it to position itself in the short term as a preferred partner for this crop in southern Europe.

The team developed a state-of-the-art constructive solution for the cultivation and processing of the plant, through high command and control technology, using the best players and market brands.

GreenBe Pharma's headquarters are located in Elvas (Portugal), where it recently built its facilities, with more than 13.000 m2, which include a greenhouse, equipped with state-of-the-art technology for all phases of cultivation, and a processing unit under the EU GMP standard, where post-harvest flower activities are carried out for the processing and manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.

GreenBe Pharma, preferred partner of the pharmaceutical industry

This step will allow GreenBe Pharma to position itself in the short term as a preferred cultivation partner in southern Europe for the pharmaceutical cannabis industry and, specifically, for companies in the sector that do not intervene in the primary production phases.

João Janeiro, Company Operations Director, stated: “Over the last two years it has become clear that the cannabis sector needs to focus on very specialized activities along the value chain, as companies that focus on what they excel at. At GreenBE Pharma, since the project's conception, we have had a clear vocation for highly efficient agricultural production. We are farmers and we are going to focus on obtaining the high quality dried cannabis flowers that the market demands. We believe that concentrating on a small number of cultivation operators will represent a challenge and at the same time an opportunity to demonstrate the quality and efficiency of our work.”

The company's strategy involves establishing stable, long-term supply agreements with its partners, starting with the export of its products to international markets, which have already adopted policies favorable to patients who make therapeutic use of the plant, and always with a good relationship cost benefit.

Carefully look at the environments that may advance other legal structures in the future, as stated by Eliecer López, Director of Business Development: “Relying on technology and evaluating an exceptional genetic catalog from the beginning, we successfully completed varietal validation tests in the first half of the year. Thanks to obtaining this authorization, we will continue to test new genetics and cultivate commercial batches during the rest of 2023. The design of the facilities allows us to operate with total flexibility and independence to offer personalized harvests of the varieties required by healthcare professionals for patients and that work better in our productive reality.

High technology, energy efficiency and circularity

GreenBe Pharma engineers have sought a state-of-the-art constructive solution, both for cultivation and processing, through proprietary technology projects and intelligent automatic control, which allows them to manage agronomic and environmental parameters that minimize cultivation risks and thus achieve the ideal development of the plant, at each stage, until its processing and final product: “The geographic location of Elvas allows it to have a highly efficient production system, from an energy point of view, throughout the year, guaranteeing the needs for hours of sunlight and inputs at its disposal, through precise climate control and monitoring. of factors affecting production. We have also installed a photovoltaic solar park with capacity to produce 1 MW/h, which allows us to supply energy or distribute surplus energy at any time. “We also take the opportunity to heat the facility in the colder months, to fertilize with co-products derived from our other agricultural productions and we compost all surplus biomass that has no pharmaceutical use, closing the cycle in a sustainable way ”, indicated João Janeiro .

Interdisciplinary team

Obtaining this cultivation authorization is a consequence of the good work carried out over the last year and a half by the team of professionals at GreenBe Pharma, made up of a multidisciplinary team of Engineers, Pharmacists, Chemists, among other specialties. All of them specialists in the different stages of cultivation and post-harvest. In addition, we have all support staff in the administration and security functions of our facilities.

In the coming months, the first commercial agreements for the supply of dried flowers with European distributors are expected, with GreenBe Pharma continuing to advance in the implementation of its strategy in a line based on integrity and responsibility, in a Medicinal Cannabis pharmaceutical industry that wants to be reliable, towards a better future that benefits patients.
