Obelisk Farm continues to be recognized around the world for its unique approach to the exploitation of industrial hemp. The family project, which is based in Latvia and has roots also in Portugal, is aligned with sustainability, in addition to having an educational aspect — the “Hemp School”. This school has now been selected as one of the finalists for the prestigious “European Training Foundation Green Skills 2024” award. Voting is open until May 31st and anyone who wants can submit their vote through the portal Green Skills ETF. Winners will be announced in June 2024.

Obelisk Farm, opened in 2017, has distinguished itself in Europe by offering a comprehensive range of hemp-related educational initiatives. The project, which fully exploits hemp, from cultivation to construction, food, paper and even wool production, has now been selected by the Jury of the “European Training Foundation Green Skills 2024” Award as one of the 10 finalist projects.

Obelisk Farm, a family project that exploits hemp in Latvia

The contest ETF Green Awards 2024, launched by the European Training Foundation (ETF) in January 2024, seeks to highlight projects that are based on good practices in terms of green transition and sought to bring together inspiring and innovative ideas in their contribution to greener and fairer economies and societies. Obelisk Farm's Hemp School's nomination for the EFT Green Skills Award is the result of its outstanding commitment to promoting environmentally responsible skills and practices. This award recognizes initiatives that demonstrate exceptional commitment to developing “green” skills, essential to face global environmental challenges and promote sustainability. Obelisk Farm, founded in 2017, is a family-sized hemp farm where they grow their own hemp and produce a variety of food products based on this versatile resource. In addition to the Hemp School, the farm houses a museum dedicated to hemp, a house built with hemp-based materials and a store that offers various products to visitors.

The ten finalists will be highlighted in publications and online communications from ETF and its international partners, increasing the visibility and positive impact of each initiative. In addition, short films will be produced to bring the finalists' stories to new audiences around the world. Three winners will be chosen from these finalists, one of them chosen by public vote and the other two selected by an international jury made up of experts in green skills.

The project's nomination as a finalist for the ETF Green Skills Award highlights not only the educational excellence of the project, but also the fundamental role that Obelisk Farm plays in promoting sustainability and advancing innovative agricultural and educational practices through the use of hemp . Voting is open until May 31st and you can submit your vote through the portal Green Skills ETF. Winners will be announced in June 2024.
