ICAD promotes European survey on drug use in Portugal

The Institute for Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies (ICAD) started the 4th edition of the European Web Survey on Drugs in Portugal, a inquiry anonymous online that seeks to understand patterns of consumption of illicit drugs and new psychoactive substances among Portuguese users aged 18 or over, with the aim of informing and improving public health policies.

The initiative is repeated every three years and is carried out simultaneously in more than 30 European and neighboring countries, having started last month and lasting until mid-July.

The questionnaire is completely anonymous and is organized into several optional modules, allowing participants to describe their patterns of consumption/use and acquisition of substances in the last 12 months. Substances included are ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, methamphetamines, cannabis, CBD/low THC products, new psychoactive substances and ketamine. Additionally, each country has the possibility of preparing a specific module. In Portugal, the choice fell on the use of psychedelics.

This survey will not only serve to provide a detailed overview of drug use in each country, but will also serve as a basis for developing informed and effective interventions. After collecting the data, each country analyzes its national reality, contributing to a better understanding of local behaviors and trends.

Participation in the survey is an opportunity for users to anonymously share their experiences, and contribute to a clearer picture of drug use in Portugal, being an active part in planning public health policies.
