USA: Sha'Carri Richardson wins silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games, after missing Tokyo for testing positive for THC

After missing the Tokyo Olympic Games due to testing positive for THC, Sha'Carri Richardson finally had her moment of glory this week in Paris, placing 2nd in the 100 meter race, which earned her the his first Olympic silver medal. 

Sha'Carri has had to overcome many setbacks in recent years, after being denied participation in the US team following a positive test for THC, just before the Olympic Games in Tokyo. At the time, the athlete apologized and explained that she turned to cannabis to deal with her mother's recent death.

Although cannabis is not a substance that can improve performance or give athletes an advantage, it is still considered prohibited at the Olympic Games.

However, recently, the NCAA — National Collegiate Athletic Association, announced a change significant impact on its drug policy, declaring that cannabis will no longer be classified as a prohibited substance for Division I athletes during championships. Cannabis use among athletes gained significant attention when Sha'Carri was excluded from the 2021 US Olympic Games team after testing positive for cannabis.
