With more than 20 tons of cannabis exported in 2024 (18.521 kg at the end of the 3rd quarter of this year), Portugal is now the largest exporter of cannabis in Europe and the second largest in the world, only surpassed by Canada. But which companies have a license from Infarmed to operate in activities related to the cannabis plant in Portugal? The latest report from the National Authority for Medicines and Health Products IP reveals an increase in the number of licenses granted, as well as in the number of companies in the pre-licensing phase, but there are also companies that have not renewed their authorization. After the published maps last year and 2022, we have once again compiled all licensed companies in Portugal (in list and map versions), for easier consultation by professionals in the cannabis industry.

There are currently 37 companies licensed for cannabis cultivation, 24 for manufacturing, 46 for import, 47 for export and 11 for trade and distribution (see full lists below). It should be noted that several companies hold different types of licenses for different areas of activity related to cannabis.

Of the 56 licensed companies, 20 are EU-GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certified.

In addition to the companies already authorized in the different areas of activity, it should be noted that there are many more in the decision phase and awaiting inspection by Infarmed to obtain a final license: 94 are in the development phase to receive inspection for cultivation, 39 for processing, 100 for import and export and 20 for distribution.

There are also 125 companies that are already in phase 2, that is, with the necessary documentation to continue their implementation in Portugal. This means that it is quite likely that the number of companies that could operate with cannabis in Portugal will exceed 200 in the next two years.

See here the updated lists of companies licensed by Infarmed IP in Portugal, as of today, December 20, 2024. Below, you will find the PDF version organized in alphabetical order (in Portuguese and also in English).

Please note that these companies are constantly updated on the Infarmed website and that their location on the map corresponds to their tax headquarters – and not necessarily to the place of cultivation or the activity carried out. Some of these companies hold several types of licenses.

With a professional background in CAD technical drawing (2D and 3D), João Xabregas is an activist and advocate for all uses and applications of cannabis. He discovered and entered the world of cannabis during his youth, where he developed a special interest in the cultivation of the plant, which led him on a journey of self-learning through the world of cannabis that continues to this day. His adventures linked to cannabis cultivation began with the same goal as many others: to be able to guarantee the quality and eliminate any possible risks to his health of what he consumed, as well as to avoid any type of dependence on the illicit market. However, he quickly began to view the world of cannabis and everything related to it with a very different perspective. He admits the enormous passion he has for the most persecuted plant in the world and about which he is always willing to write and have a good conversation.
