Jürg Gertsch: “There is definitely a growing interest in cannabis-related research”

The International Medical Cannabis Conference Bern (IMCCB), organised by Professors Jürg Gertsch and Rudolf Brenneisen, aims to bring together physicians, researchers, industry professionals and patients to discuss the current state and future of medical cannabis. In anticipation of this important event, we spoke to Prof. Jürg Gertsch, who told us about the main highlights of the conference, which takes place this week, on 13 and 14 February, at the University of Bern, Switzerland.
In this interview, Jürg Gertsch tells us a little about the main presentations that will take place at the conference, emphasizing the complexity of the endocannabinoid system, the challenges in standardizing cannabis-based medicines, due to the variability in THC and CBD content and the importance of certificates of analysis (CoA).
Gertsch also discusses the potential of minor cannabinoids and terpenes, the impact of irradiation on cannabis flowers, and the importance of precision medicine and individualized endocannabinoid profiles. We end the conversation with some thoughts on the pilot projects underway in Switzerland, which are exploring the recreational use of cannabis in four regions.
