Legalization turns Germany into a cannabis hotspot: Mary Jane becomes the world's largest cannabis fair for the first time

Berlin, June 16, 2025 – About a year after the partial legalization by the government coalition of the “traffic light”, Germany has become the main meeting point for the global cannabis scene. With 60,000 expected visitors, more than 500 exhibitors and an expanded festival area, Mary Jane Berlin will be – for the first time since its founding in 2016 – the largest cannabis fair in the world, taking place from 19 to 22 June 2025.
On more than 70,000 square meters of exhibition space, industry icons such as former world boxing champion Mike Tyson will present the latest products, renowned artists such as Samy Deluxe will perform on the festival stage, and experts will discuss home cultivation, the growing demand for medicinal cannabis and the growing telemedicine market at the professional conference. Cannabis-related sales in Germany are expected to reach €2025 billion by XNUMX.
“We started as a small gathering of people and are now the world’s largest cannabis trade fair. When it came to cannabis, the world used to look to the US – now it looks to Germany and Mary Jane is the industry’s highlight,” says Nhung Nguyen, organiser and co-founder of the trade fair. A record 40,000 tickets have been sold in advance. 2 industry representatives from 19 countries have registered for the first B5.000B day on 50 June. The professional conference, organised in cooperation with the Cannabis Industry Association (BvCW), will host 90 high-level speakers from the fields of business, science and policy. “We want to showcase all facets and the many positive qualities of cannabis – and why legalisation is the only right way forward,” says Nguyen.
The effects of legalization are also reflected in the numbers: Germany has around 4,5 million cannabis users. This number has practically doubled in the last 15 years.
According to Statista, revenues from the cannabis market in Germany are expected to reach around €2025 billion by 2024. A special focus is being placed on medicinal cannabis. Thanks to the new legal situation, the market is growing like never before. Imports of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes increased significantly over the course of 8,1, according to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices. The amount increased from 11,6 tonnes in the first quarter to 20,7 tonnes in the second quarter, 31,7 tonnes in the third quarter and XNUMX tonnes in the fourth quarter.
Several medical cannabis distributors will be showcasing their product lines and services at the fair. Telemedicine is also playing an increasingly important role. More and more people are using the option of ordering cannabis with a prescription online and having it delivered to a pharmacy. Delivery services are bringing the products directly to customers. “The medical community is increasingly recognizing the value of the plant in treating diseases and relieving pain. The initial hesitations of doctors and pharmacies are slowly dissipating,” says Nguyen.
In addition to medicinal cannabis, visitors will also find the latest trends in the industry at the fair: digitalized balcony greenhouses for home cultivation, edibles ranging from brownies to granola bars, and a wide selection of non-intoxicating CBD products, ranging from massage oils to meditation teas. “Mary Jane offers something for everyone. We have adapted the entire concept of the fair to appeal to new audiences as well. Smoking is prohibited in the halls out of consideration for all guests, and there will be several relaxation areas, international food trucks and awareness teams. Everyone should feel comfortable and have fun,” says Nguyen.
The same applies to the open-air festival. Under the motto “Cannabis First”, no alcohol will be served. The focus of the expanded party area is the cannabis plant. The Summer Garden has a capacity of around 10,000 guests. Every day, attractions such as Samy Deluxe, Hayiti and Marvin Game are presented. A special highlight: a Ferris wheel for visitors.
“One year after legalisation, Germany has become the most innovative and dynamic cannabis market. Even though it is the world’s largest trade fair, we want to maintain our special community spirit,” says Nguyen. “Chancellor Merz once asked: ‘What is Bubatz?’. Mary Jane gives the answer: cannabis is now part of society and brings people together.”
