CannAzores returns to Terceira Island with science, sustainability and the green economy at the center of the debate
The city of Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira Island, will host the 5th edition of CannAzores – Transatlantic Hemp and Cannabis Forum on October 24, 2025. The event will once again bring together researchers, producers, policymakers, activists, academics, and entrepreneurs for a day dedicated entirely to the development of hemp and cannabis in the Azores archipelago and beyond. The event will take place at the Azoris Angra Garden Hotel, and admission is free with prior registration.
It's back CannAzores – Transatlantic Hemp and Cannabis Forum, an event that once again becomes the main meeting point in the Azores region with the aim of discussing the present and future of cannabis and hemp in Portugal and the Atlantic. The initiative will take place in Azoris Angra Garden Hotel, in the heart of Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira Island. Admission is free, with prior registration.
Organized by Neuron Bonus, Confraria Internacional Cannabis Portugal, and SoulFull Farming, the meeting aims to deepen the debate on cannabis in its various dimensions—industrial, agricultural, scientific, medicinal, economic, and cultural—bringing together national and international experts, researchers, producers, entrepreneurs, activists, and representatives of civil society.
The event opens at 9:30 AM and will feature the Regional Secretary of Agriculture, António Ventura, for the official opening of the session. António João Costa of CannaReporter® will open the conference series with a presentation titled "Hemp and Cannabis: Global Evolution and the Reality in Portugal."
After the first coffee break — which includes cannabis coffee and delicacies from the International Cannabis Portugal Brotherhood — the debate continues at 11:30 a.m. with the panel "Sustainable Hemp Industries and the Economic Development of the Azores," with a roundtable discussion between Helena Lalanda from the Polytechnic Institute of Santarem, focusing on animal nutrition, Inês Milagres from Quotidiano Integral, referring to Textiles, César Cardoso who explores, through Natura Materia, the construction sector and building materials with hemp and lastly Maria Rey from CTAEX in Spain – a reference center in the development of agri-food sustainability projects.
At 12:30 pm the musical project “CannaVibe: One Song One Tribe” will be launched, presented by Graça Castanho, founder of CannaPortugal and CannAzores, followed by a free lunch between 12:45 pm and 14:00 pm.
In the afternoon, the event will feature a panel discussion on "Science, Research, and Technology," starting at 14:00 p.m. The panel will include João Madruga of the University of the Azores, who will discuss Agriculture; Bozidar Radisic of the Research Nature Institute of Slovenia will discuss the "Hemp on Mars" project; António Vélez of the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, who is starting a course on cannabis sativa production; and Hugo Monteiro of SoulFull Farming – Research Projects, already known in the community for his extensive experience in the hemp cultivation sector.
At 15:00 pm, the “Medicinal Cannabis” panel begins, addressing health, sports and patients, with Daniela Ribeiro, from the Pharmaceutical Sciences area of the University of the Azores, Paula Mota, founder of the Mothers for Cannabis Movement, Rafael Cippolo to address the topic of sports recovery with CBD and Chelsie Santos from Zen Terceira – CBD Shop & Barbershop.
After a tea break with cannabic Gorreana tea at 16:00 pm, the panel "Hemp Production in the Azores" follows at 16:20 pm, featuring farmers and projects from the archipelago, including CannaPico, Sanguinho, Quotidiano Integral, Ecolife Pro, and CICPT. At 17:00 pm, the stage is taken over by the III CannAzores Fashion Show, featuring clothing made from natural hemp fibers.
Half an hour later, at 5:30 p.m., the 5th Enthronement Chapter of the International Cannabis Portugal Brotherhood will take place, a ceremony that includes a historical review, speeches, and a tour of Angra's historic center. The day concludes at 7:00 p.m. with the Cannabis Dinner, available for €25, upon reservation.
