The 2nd European Conference on Addictive Behaviors and Addictions — Lisbon Addictions 2017 starts this Tuesday, the 24th, and runs until Thursday, the 26th of October, at the Lisbon Congress Center. The event is co-organized by SICAD (Service for Intervention in Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies), by the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE) and the magazine Addiction.

The conferences have the intervention of several international experts in the field of addictive behavior and addictions and the debates will cover from the latest scientific developments to new challenges in areas such as illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, the internet and darkNets.This edition has more than 1200 entries, from all continents, in a total of 70 countries and aims to reach a multidisciplinary audience, with subjects as diverse as epidemiology, public policy, clinical research, psychopharmacology and the sciences social and behavioral.

On Tuesday, the 24th, the inaugural session (at 09:00 am) — “Science Speaks to Policy” — has confirmed the interventions of Alexandre Quintanilha, scientist and President of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science of the Assembly of the Republic, and Vladimir Poznyak, Coordinator of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse at WHO (World Health Organization).
At the opening ceremony, which will also take place on the 24th at 10:30 am, Fernando Araújo, Assistant Secretary of State and Health, João Goulão, Director General of SICAD and Alexis Goosdeel, Director of the EMCDDA, will speak. Health and Food Safety, Vytenis Andriukaitis.
Lisbon Addictions 2017 will be developed around four main themes:
• From science to policy and from policy to science;
• Assessing dependencies — a matter of scale;
• Addition limits;
• Future challenges on the premises;
Over three days, more than 500 presentations will be held, more than 200 posters will be displayed and more than 20 lectures will take place, given by researchers and professionals recognized worldwide. Of the various partners that joined this event, the United Nations , European Comission and the Conselho from Europe.
