USA: Mike Tyson products recalled for mold contamination

California authorities have issued a mandatory recall notice for two Mike Tyson brand cannabis products after finding fungal mold. The products were sold in 20 stores across the state, including three in San Francisco.

The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) has issued a warning mandatory collection of Tyson flowers due to the presence of Aspergillus sp. in multiple Tyson Undisputed cannabis flower products. This decision comes after an investigation that found fungal mold in these products, posing a potential health risk to consumers.

According to the recall details, the affected products were Tyson Undisputed cannabis flower, specifically the lots identified as “TOAD” and “TADPOLES”. These have been sold in several licensed stores throughout the state of California since August 24, 2023.

Contamination with Aspergillus, a type of fungal mold, can pose serious health risks, especially for people with weakened immune systems. As a precautionary measure, the DCC is advising the public to check whether they have the affected products and, if so, to discard them immediately or return them to the retailer for proper disposal.

The stores where the recalled products were sold include establishments in several areas, from Alameda to San Diego. Consumers who have purchased these products should check the batch and identification numbers on the packaging and act in accordance with the collection instructions provided by the DCC. To date, the Mike Tyson brand has not publicly commented on the recall. The DCC is also working closely with licensees who have these products in their inventories, providing instructions on how to respond to this recall and ensure consumer safety.
