CannaCasa repudiates GNR action and criticizes DGAV

Published

em

CannaCasa – Associação do Cânhamo Industrial, a non-profit association whose purpose is to defend and promote the sector associated with industrial cannabis in Portugal, issued a statement following the latest events related to the arrests of farmers and seizures of hemp in Portugal.

Remember that CannaCasa lodged a complaint against DGAV with the Ombudsman last May.

“CannaCasa brings together almost a hundred members who look at the hemp crop as a crop with potential for Portugal. Several of CannaCasa's associates were granted an authorization request from the General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV) for the activity of growing hemp for industrial purposes. However, several other associates, in the same circumstances, had their requests rejected, when documents similar to the approved farmers were submitted.

Thus, CannaCasa hereby denounces the unacceptable and undignified administrative practices, as well as completely repudiating the humiliating and unnecessary actions of control of the various entities of the security forces. This type of stance on the part of the DGAV is not correct, impartial, nor is it in accordance with European legislation that regulates the entire sector. The actions of the GNR and the security forces, despite being legitimized by the exercise of the narcotic control function, are shown to be highly harmful to the suitability of our associates and are equally harmful to farmers in economic terms.

CannaCasa has been sending meeting requests to DGAV since November 2020, having not received any response so far. Likewise, the protocol signed between the various entities involved, provided for in Order 10953, has not yet been made available to CannaCasa, after a request to the DGAV.

Through the Sónia Falcão da Fonseca Law Firm (https://www.soniafalcaodafonseca.com) CannaCasa has made several efforts to obtain clarifications from the DGAV, all without success, so the Association is forced to look for other ways to obtain recognition that the culture in question deserves by government institutions.”
