Association wants urgent regulation of cannabis industry

Cannapress had first-hand access to the Pró-Cânhamo Press Release, an association of plant producers Cannabis sativa L., that emerged after several weeks of uncertainty about the rules that will regulate the cannabis industry, and consequently industrial hemp. The Communiqué expresses the concerns of national producers and is reproduced here in full.

“The Association of Cannabis Producers – Pró Cânhamo (PROCAN) was created with the objective of representing producers of cannabis. Cannabis Sativa L. in Portugal, contributing to the development and regulation of Industry in Portugal.

On the sidelines of the International Conference on Cannabis Policy, organized after the meeting of the “United Nations Commission on Narcotics and Drugs, UNCND”, in Vienna, PROCAN issues this communiqué, supported by all associates and collaborators.

PROCAN recognizes as a priority and determinant the need to address the regulation of the multisectoral and national market, in an integrated and articulated way between all segments of the industry, through the participation of its agents and representative organizations, together with the various administrative, regulatory entities and government authorities.

We believe that this will be one of the fundamental industries for a sustainable and resilient future, and that Portugal will have great benefits by taking a pioneering position in its legislation and regulation, considering its specificities and socioeconomic opportunities combined with the edaphoclimatic conditions and endogenous resources of the national territory.
