Lisbon IPO debates the medical use of cannabinoids

The IPO — Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa organizes, on the 4th of June at 12 noon, a debate for health professionals on the medical use of cannabinoids. The event takes place at the IPO Amphitheater and admission is free.

The Psychiatry Unit, which organizes the event, says that this debate was motivated by the frequent requests of cancer patients, family members and caregivers, who seek information on the use of medicinal products based on the cannabis plant for medicinal purposes.

With a view to reflecting on the correct counseling of patients, the discussion will address issues surrounding the medical use of cannabis and will include the participation of João Goulão, director general of the Service for Intervention in Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies (SICAD) , Mário Miguel Rosa, from the Neurology Service of Hospital de Santa Maria, director of the Regional Pharmacovigilance Unit of Lisbon and Tagus Valley and consultant to the European Medicines Agency; and also Nuno Miranda, Hematologist at the Marrow Transplantation Unit of the Lisbon IPO.
