Pennsylvania backs hemp promotion with $200

Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding announced the opening of a nomination period for proposals from non-profit marketing and promotion organizations for projects aimed at increasing sales, exports or consumer awareness of hemp products in Pennsylvania. . The department plans to provide US$200 in matching funds (or reimbursements) to subsidize up to half of the costs of candidate projects, with a minimum grant amount of US$1000.

“Hemp presented a unique opportunity to develop an industry from the ground up by providing seemingly limitless sustainable building materials, fiber and food products,” said the Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture. "These subsidies will fuel a new industry that has been a staple of the Pennsylvania economy in the past and is once again presenting itself as an opportunity for agricultural income and jobs, as well as new possibilities for green and environmentally friendly products."

The release from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture will pay particular attention to projects with the potential to leverage other funding and public-private partnerships. Eligible projects may include regional or national promotion.

Eligibility conditions for these projects are that they must have started after July 1, 2022 (inclusive) and must be completed by June 30, 2023. The minimum grant is US$1000 and applications will be evaluated by comparison.

Nonprofits have until December 2, 2022 to apply for grants through the Department of Economic and Community Development's online application system. Full grant guidelines can be found here.
