The General Directorate of Food and Veterinary Medicine (DGAV) granted 20 of the 60 requests to grow industrial hemp in Portugal, 10 of which are still under analysis. The information was released today by the Office of the Minister of Agriculture to Cannareporter, who also confirmed that Teresa Pais Coelho, responsible for the Variety and Seeds Division, was replaced by Conceição Canas Serra Carvalho.

Teresa Pais Coelho has been responsible for handling notifications and requests for national industrial hemp production since 2016 and has gone through the various stages of evolution of the cannabis law in Portugal.

According to the Minister's Office, “Eng. Teresa Coelho, of her own volition, decided to start a new activity in another agency of the Ministry of Agriculture”, having been replaced by Conceição Carvalho, who since 2012 was Senior Technician of the Plant Health and Certification Division at the Directorate of Agri-food and Rural Development Services. .

As for authorization requests, the Ministry says that they are “being analyzed, in line with the provisions of the applicable legislation. Currently, 10 processes are under evaluation. DGAV received 60 requests, some of which are reformulations of previously submitted requests. To date, 20 requests have been granted, as they are complete and meet the legal requirements”, confirmed the same Office.
