Transformation of industrial hemp in Portugal could be a reality as early as 2024

Several projects for the transformation of industrial hemp are planned for 2024, the year in which Portugal can catapult its production and sales. Transformation projects with million-dollar investments in equipment.
The national industrial hemp sector may be facing a genuine revolution. This is because several industrial hemp processing projects are underway and it is expected that 2024 will be the return of processing to Portugal, after being disabled for several decades.
According to the company Cânhamor, which in a statement sent to the press announced the construction of a manufacturing unit, representing an investment of 15 million euros. The new unit, which foresees “the creation of 30 jobs”, will be installed on a plot of land measuring 36.500 square meters, in the parish of Garvão, municipality of Ourique (Beja), and when operational “it will allow for a 30-fold increase in production”, said the company, which expects to start operations between May and June 2024.
But the processing of hemp may take place in Portugal not exclusively through the hands of Canhamor, this is because a project is being implemented in an island territory that aims to transform hemp, and for this purpose, processing equipment is being transported to the territory island.
A source close to the project, which counts on community support for its execution, assured that within weeks the logistical process linked to sending the equipment could be completed, ensuring that there is already more to be done to make the project known to the public, without disclosing it to the investment values and the number of jobs expected.
Thus, Portugal has the conditions to, in 2024, see the industrial hemp sector develop, supported by the existence of transformation, through the creation of value in the national territory and the reduction of external dependence.
